The most ironic and iconic symbolisation of the Enlightenment, the university library is supposed to be the Mecca of knowledge and intellectual freedom. What declargon 1self does the library really have, rather than provide us with such freedoms of knowledge, it only further enslaves us to the new masters in our bondage. The Enlightenment was supposed to enhance our lives, hu worldity was supposed to learn with knowledge. In the end the Enlightenment only caused us to passel one slave master for another, going from the feudal lords and priests to the scientists and doctors who are our new masters. An example of how the Enlightenment has failed us is warfare. War was purportedly the result of ignorance, mans lack of knowledge; however, this savant society we live in clearly still has war (and a lot of it). As we learn from Adorno, we have get down dependent and enslaved to technology because since no one man croup truly learn all the knowledge there is to learn, man must rely on these tools to learn as a lot as he can. In turn, the more the scientists learns, the deeper into his field he goes, thus the more enslaved he becomes. We are enslaved by this perennial pursuit of knowledge and our dependence on technology to attempt to reach that never-ending finish line.



We then enter the largest building on campus (in theory) numerous terms in station to excise the prestigious college degree. This college degree gives us our value, our indoctrination into society because we are taught to count that. According to Marcuse, this need to go to the library in order to study to then get a better salaried job is all driven by our pleasure principle. Marcuse and Freud rely that our single main objective in life is to unendingly be fornicating. Unfortunately, we cannot just have intercourse all the time because we would get hungry and tired.
